A Cool New Non-Surgical Option to Help You Fight the Battle of the Bulge

Sometimes despite diet and exercise, men and women find that stubborn fat bulges may remain in the abdomen, waist, back, thighs and/or upper arms. CoolSculpting® by ZELTIQ™ is an innovative, new technology that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to target and reduce fat in your trouble zones. The patented treatment is unique compared to other methods of fat reduction because it is completely non-invasive, requiring no needles, anesthesia, chemicals, lasers, or downtime.

Based upon the research of Harvard scientists, Coolsculpting® uses a process called Cryolipolysis to target, freeze, and eliminate unwanted fat cells to produce a noticeable, natural-looking reduction in fat bulges.  A CoolSculpting® procedure typically results in an average 20 to 25 percent reduction of fat in the treated area. If desired, patients may have a secondary treatment session to achieve an additional 20 to 25 percent average reduction in the fat layer.

Who Are the Best Candidates for CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting works best for patients you are within 30 to 40 pounds of their ideal weight, but they have stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to reduction through diet and exercise. It is not suitable as a treatment for those who are pregnant, lactating, obese, or for those who have an allergy to cold temperatures.

The CoolSculpting® Procedure

Prior to your treatment you will meet with Dr. Mentz or a skilled member of his Added Touch Medical Spa to ensure that you are an appropriate candidate for CoolSculpting. Once the area of treatment has been determined, a protective gel pad will be placed on the targeted area. After positioning the machine on this area, the device then draws the bulge up between two cooling panels. The sensation is a firm tug and pull – enough of a pull to ensure the selected tissue will be cooled most efficiently. Initially you will feel a sensation of intense cold, but this soon dissipates.

The panels precisely cool the treated area to 40 degrees, a temperature which causes the fat cells to crystallize and die, while the surrounding skin, tissues, and water-based cells are left unharmed. During the treatment, you will be seated comfortably or lying down. Many patients choose to spend the treatment time reading, working on their laptop, or simply relaxing.

Following your treatment, you may immediately return to work, exercise, and other normal daily activities. You may experience temporary numbness, redness, tingling, or bruising in the treated area, but this typically resolves within two weeks.

Results can be observed as soon as three weeks following treatment, but the full results are typically seen over the next two to four months as the body eliminates the dead fat cells through its natural metabolic process. Because the treated fat cells are permanently eliminated, results should be long-lasting provided that a stable weight is maintained.
