Restylane vs. Juvederm
Juvederm® and Restylane® are two of the most popular cosmetic injectable fillers used to fill in lines and deeper facial folds such as the nasolabial folds that span from the nose to the mouth. In addition, they can add volume to thin or gaunt areas such as the lips and cheeks. Both are synthetic-based versions of hyaluronic acid, the naturally occurring skin component which binds water and gives the skin a more supple appearance. The three main differences between the two are related to their manufacturer, duration of results, and the products’ particle size. Restylane®, manufactured by Medicis Aesthetics ®, lasts approximately six months; whereas, the effects of Juvederm®, an Allergen Inc. product, can last up to a year. Practitioners have different preferences regarding their use, based upon the depth of creases and folds, and the location of the area to be treated. During your consultation, your practitioner will be able to evaluate your skin concerns and recommend the cosmetic filler that will work best to bring improvement.
