Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Henry Mentz has the notable honor of being the first surgeon in the United States to achieve triple board certification in plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery and otolaryngology (head and neck surgery). He combines the techniques and skills specific to each of these boards to produce dramatic results that are long-lasting and natural in appearances.
Consistently selected by Houston physicians as one of the top plastic surgeons in the city (H-Texas Magazine "Top Doc" award) , Dr. Mentz is respected worldwide for his introduction of innovative liposuction and body contouring techniques. Dr. Mentz invented Abdominal Etching® in 1992 and is considered a world authority on the specialized liposuction technique. He authored the first paper on Abdominal Etching® and contributed a chapter on the subject for a plastic surgery text. He also instructs the course for Abdominal Etching at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The procedure is designed to define the contours of the abdominal muscles to create the athletic appearance of a "six-pack." He followed this with the development of Pectoral Etching®, a liposuction method which gives the male chest a more muscular appearance. In 1994, Dr. Mentz developed a puncture incision technique for the gynecomastia procedure in order to eliminate any visible scarring.
In recognition of his body contouring expertise, the prestigious American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) has invited Dr. Mentz to present his liposculpting techniques to plastic surgeons at its annual meetings for two years in a row. Dr. Mentz has presented his techniques to advance body contouring's safety, recovery, and results through numerous presentations and publications for plastic surgeons. In addition to authoring three book chapters on liposuction, he has written papers on large volume liposuction and the use of blood thinners after liposuction to reduce blood clots. The ASAPS and Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation jointly awarded Dr. Mentz the "Best Journal Article of 2008" for his article which presented risk assessment for liposuction based upon a review of 3871 consecutive cases.

Liposuction
Liposuction is effective at restoring more ideal proportions to the body through the removal of excess fatty deposits. For men, stubborn fat commonly accumulate in the waist, abdomen, neck, and chin. Dr. Mentz utlilizes liposuction to achieve the following goals:
- Restore a more ideal V-shape to your body.
- Reduce the waistline flab that causes the appearance of a "spare tire" or "love handles"
- Remove fat from the chin and neck to restore more chiseled definition between the neck and jaw. Liposuction is frequently combined with a necklift and/or facelift to tighten sagging skin skin and muscles.
- Correct overly developed male breasts (Gynecomastia) to restore a more masculine appearance to the chest. This procedure is frequently combined with Pectoral Etching®, a liposuction technique which Dr. Mentz developed to define the appearance of the pectoral muscles.
Abdominal Etching® is a specialized liposuction technique in which fat is selectively removed from the abdomen to give it a flatter appearance and to emphasize the muscular contours that create the appearance of washboard abs.. The procedure is suitable for those who are relatively in shape who have 1-2 centimeters of pinchable belly fat. A traditional liposuction procedure is more effective for those who have a larger volume of unwanted abdominal fat.

Facelift

A facelift procedure is designed to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance to the face by correcting the visible signs of aging that occur as a result of diminished skin elasticity, collagen production, and skin quality. This comprehensive procedure is considered one of the most effective and long-lasting solutions to return a smoother, rejuvenated and uplifted look to the face through correction of the following characteristics:
- Sagging in the midface that can cause the appearance of jowls
- Deep creases along the nose that extend to the corners of the mouth
- Deep creases below the lower eyelids
- Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin which can cause the appearance of a double chin
To achieve maximum rejuvenation and natural-looking results, Dr. Mentz accurately measures, grades, and records the amount of aging or laxity in each area of the face to determine the facelift method that will achieve the most effective results for a patient. Dr. Mentz, who has achieved consistently successful results with this innovative method since 2007, introduced the technique to the Texas Society of Plastic Surgery in 2008.
Through computer imaging and the consultation process, the various methods which includes the mini facelift, MAC lift, deep layer, multilayer, and SMAS facelift, can be demonstrated on the patient's image to evaluate the best options for a patient. Dr. Mentz has consistently found that three options can be determined for each patient, and, of these, one will most effectively maximize the rejuvenating results that can be achieved.
Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)
A brow lift can provide a significantly more refreshed and youthful look to the face by correcting the characteristics that cause a tired and aged appearance. Due to a loss of skin elasticity, sun damage and repeated muscle contraction, the brow begins to descend lower on the face and creases become etched along the forehead and between the brows causing the face to have an aged, fatigued and worried appearance.
Browlift surgery provides the following benefits:
- Elevates the brows into a youthful position to give you a more refreshed and youthful look
- Smoothes out the lines that stretch across the forehead and the vertical lines between the brows
- Improves the appearance of sagging folds between the brows and lids
Dr. Mentz uses an endoscopic technique which allows his to reposition the skin and the underlying tissues and muscles of the forehead through tiny incisions made within the hairline so that scarring is typically minimal and well-concealed.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery restores a refreshed, rested, and alert appearance to the eyes by improving the look of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Though eyelid surgery can be performed alone, it is often combined with a facelift, browlift and/or necklift. This procedure effectively helps to correct the characteristics which can cause the eyes to appear tired and aged including:
- Loose or sagging skin of the upper eyelids, which can obscure the natural fold of lids and, in some cases, cause vision impairment
- Puffiness in the upper eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Droopiness of the lower eyelids
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelids
Neck Lift Surgery
A neck lift restores a firmer, youthful contour to the neck. A loss of skin elasticity, and a weakening of the neck muscles causes the neck to sag and develop creases. Dr. Mentz restores a smooth and younger appearance to the neck by removing sagging skin and tightening the underlying muscles for longer lasting results. In some cases, he may also recommend liposuction to reduce excess fatty deposits.
A facelift will tighten sagging skin that can lead to the appearance of jowls and a double chin. For long-lasting results and a natural appearance, Dr. Mentz also tightens the underlying tissues and muscles.
Liposuction and Facial Rejuvenation Recovery
The majority of procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. For more extensive procedures such as facelift surgery and larg-volume liposuction, Dr. Mentz may recommend an overnight stay in one of his SurgiCentre's recovery suites, where you will be cared for by our highly-trained registered nursing staff. If you live within 30 miles of our facility, Dr. Mentz will offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse who is trained to assist you with your recovery. The nurse will monitor your recovery, change any dressings, assist you with your medication, and provide Dr. Mentz with an update on your condition.
Most men are able to return to work in 3-5 days after liposuction, abdominal etching or gynecomastia surgery, and exercise can be resumed in about 2-3 weeks or when Dr. Mentz advises. Facial procedures typically require about 5-7 days of recovery, while patients can return to work about two weeks after facelift surgery.
The results of liposuction and other body contouring procedures are typically long-lasting provided that a stable weight is maintained.

30-Minute Post-Surgical Therapeutic Massage
The massage therapists at Dr. Mentz's Added Touch Medical Spa offer a special post-surgical massage that is designed to support and speed your body's natural healing process after a cosmetic surgery procedure. A combination of lymphatic and Swedish massage techniques are used, which work together to relax you and stimulate the lymphatic system to help reduce bruising, swelling, and numbness.
Scar Therapy System
To help diminish postoperative scars, we have designed a Scar Therapy System, which consists of three products to be applied daily in the weeks following surgery. This package includes two SkinMedica products: TNS Recovery Complex and Tri-Retinol Complex, and an advanced scar treatment gel. Skin Care
At The Added Touch Medical Spa, Dr. Mentz's skin care specialists will work with you to design a simple daily skin care regimen to help you look your best. Our Obagi and Skin Medica products contain active, pharmaceutical-grade ingredients which work at a cellular level to penetrate and improve your skin. In addition, we offer a number of treatment options which will restore a refreshed appearance to the face. Many of these treatments can be completed in less than an hour and require minimal to no downtime.
Chemical Peels smooth the skin's appearance by gently resurfacing it through the removal of its damaged outer layers. They are an effective non-surgical cosmetic treatment for those who desire to treat mild to more severe skin conditions including sun-damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, skin pigment abnormalities, acne, and acne scarring.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion gives the skin a fresh and healthy appearance through the gently abrasive mechanical action of crystals, which slough away the dead surface cells that can cause skin to appear dull and aged. The massaging action helps to increase oxygenation in the skin, which, in turn, stimulates the production of collagen to give the skin a more revitalized look. Microdermabrasion diminishes the appearance of skin imperfections such as fine lines, brown spots, and acne scars, and helps to clean out pores, as well.
Laser Treatments
Like microdermabrasion and chemical peels, lasers resurface the skin to rejuvenate its appearance. However, they achieve this action at a deeper level through the action of short pulses of light that penetrate the skin's layers to stimulate the growth of new collagen fibers.
