Dr. Henry Mentz - The Nation’s First Triple Board Certified Surgeon
Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Henry Mentz is recognized as one of the nation’s leading plastic surgeons and the inventor of numerous advanced techniques that are now standard procedures in many plastic surgery practices across the country. He signaled what would be the beginning of a career marked by many innovative achievements when he became the first surgeon in the United States to receive triple board certification. Each of these boards, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and The American Board of Otolaryngology represents an advanced course of study using a different set of skills and techniques. This extensive training has allowed him to improve technologies and to provide more refined results, particularly in the area of facial rejuvenation.
His patients travel from throughout the world to receive the benefit of his precise and detailed techniques and his instinctive aesthetic sense. This precision was honed in his work as an otolaryngologist performing surgery within the small spaces of the ear, nose, and throat. He later went on to achieve board certifications in plastic surgery, where he applies this same attention to detail in facial procedures to restore a more youthful appearance. By employing a multi-faceted approach that involves the use of advanced lifting and tightening techniques combined with skin quality improvement and volume restoration, he provides an extensive level of rejuvenation to the face that appears completely natural.
Throughout his 20 year career, he has focused strongly on continually developing and introducing new cosmetic surgery procedures and techniques. In 1992, he invented Abdominal Etching®, a liposuction technique to create more muscular definition in the abdomen through the detailed removal of fat around the abdominal musculature structure. He followed this with the development of a Pectoral Etching® procedure to define the pectoralis muscles to give the upper body a more athletic appearance.
Other advancements he introduced include the development and use of an anesthetic device that reduces postoperative pain and speeds recovery from a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure. He has been extensively involved in the study and application of advanced fat grafting techniques to improve aesthetic results, particularly in the use of stem-cell enriched fat grafting for facial procedures. In addition he developed a method to improve Brazilian Butt Lift procedures by creating a device that maximizes the buttocks volume that can be achieved in a much shorter period of time.
As a result of his many surgical accomplishments, Dr. Mentz has received numerous awards, including recognition as one of “America’s Top Plastic Surgeons” in 2008 from the Consumers’ Research Council of America, and selection as one of the nation’s leading plastic surgeons in a Goldline Research study that was published in Forbes magazine. For many years Houston area physicians have named him one of Houston’s Top docs in H Texas Magazine.
In recent years, he has devoted his efforts to helping the underprivileged through the charitable work of his Mentz Foundation. He and his staff donate a portion of his My Medispa profits to support local and international medical missions. In Roatan, Honduras they have had the privilege of partnering with a medical clinic to provide supplies and medical attention to those in need.
