Dr. Henry Mentz and His
Ab Etching® Procedure for 6-Pack Abs

Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Henry Mentz and his innovative Abdominal Etching® liposuction procedure was spotlighted in a recent Houston Chronicle newspaper article: The Top 5 Cosmetic Surgeries for Men in 2010, which focused on the growing popularity of cosmetic plastic surgery among men.
In the article, Dr. Mentz notes that Abdominal Etching®−a liposuction technique he invented in the early 1990s to sculpt a muscular six-pack abdominal appearance—is the most requested procedure he performs for men. In the one-hour procedure, Dr. Mentz uses liposuction to thin the abdominal fat pad and to outline the abdominal muscles to make them more visible. The innovative procedure has attracted national attention, including a recent segment on the television show Inside Edition, which featured Dr. Mentz and his Abdominal Etching® patient, Travis Mosher, an MBA student who elected to have the procedure after experiencing little success achieving six-pack abs through diet and exercise.
The popularity of Abdominal Etching® reflects a growing acceptance of cosmetic plastic surgery among men and society in general. Since 1997, the number of men choosing to have cosmetic plastic surgery has skyrocketed, with 750,000 procedures performed for men in 2010−an 88 percent increase compared to 1997, according to statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
