In some cases, a panniculectomy is included to remove the excess skin that hangs over the genitals and thighs like an apron. At his Houston office, triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz performs lower body lift surgery to help his patients restore their appearance after excessive loose skin develops due to dramatic weight loss, weight fluctuation, natural aging, or other reasons.

Surgical Technique

A technique that is commonly used to lift the lower body is a belt lipectomy. To comprehensively improve the lower body’s appearance, a body lift is frequently combined with tummy tuck surgery and an outer thigh lift, while an inner thigh lift is performed as a separate procedure.

Dr. Mentz is nothing short of a magician. I went to him for an abdominoplasty in November of 2015 and his work has been life changing. His "bedside manner" is equal to his skill.

Recovery

Following your surgery, Dr. Mentz may recommend an overnight stay in one of his recovery suites, where you will be cared for by our registered nursing staff or patients who live within 20 miles of our office can have a lower body lift performed as an outpatient procedure.

For outpatient procedures, Dr. Mentz will offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse who is trained to assist you with your recovery. The nurse will monitor change any dressings, assist you with your medication, and provide Dr. Mentz with an update.

Recovery can range from 5-7 days for liposuction and up to 2 weeks for more extensive body lifting procedures. The results of body contouring are typically long-lasting provided that a stable weight is maintained.

FAQ

Better Recovery?

To reduce swelling and help your body conform to its new contours, you may be fitted with a compression garment which will be worn for approximately 4 weeks. In some cases, Dr. Mentz may also place small drain tubes under your skin to collect excess fluid. Any drain tubes and stitches are removed in about 1-2 weeks. Take it easy as you recover, you shouldn't do anything strenuous, including lifting, for the first several weeks.

Post-Bariatric Surgery?

A lower body lift is often considered the final step in a bariatric weight loss procedure. With the fast, dramatic weight loss created by bariatric surgery, many patients find that when they reach their goals weight, their skin has not adapted to their new shape and they have loose, hanging skin. A lower body lift addresses the most common areas of excess skin after bariatric surgery, but Dr. Mentz customizes each lower body lift to the needs of the patient.

Scarring?

Dr. Mentz does his best to make all surgical incisions in areas that are less visible, easily concealed, or in the natural folds of the body, so when healing is completed, scarring will not detract from the final results. Dr. Mentz and his staff can also go over scar care and recovery options that will improve the speed of healing and your final appearance.
