Sculptra

Although Sculptra is often referred to as a dermal filler, it is actually a volumizer. Made from synthetic poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra diminishes facial creases and gauntness by stimulating an increase in the skin’s collagen. Through a series of three treatment sessions, Sculptra works to trigger more and more collagen to restore volume to the face, with results that can last up to two years.

What can Sculptra do?

  • Volumize the depressed temple area
  • Soften overly prominent cheekbones
  • Correct nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Add youthful volume to gaunt, hollow cheeks
  • Sculpt and define the jawline to compliment the face
  • Add volume around the mouth (however, not the lips)
  • Stimulate new collagen-rich tissue

Sculptra vs. other fillers

The choice to be treated with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers (such as Restylane ® or Juvéderm®) or Sculptra is usually determined by the amount of volume that needs to be replaced, how old the patient is, and how much maintenance is required.

For those without much volume replacement, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers may be a better choice. However, if the patient needs quite a lot of volume to be replaced, Sculptra in Houston may be the most cost-effective in the long run.

There’s honestly no “one-size-fits-all” treatment. Every patient is different, with certain areas of concern and specific aesthetic goals. During your consultation, we will closely listen to your needs in order to determine the right treatment for you.

Sculptra treatments

Before your treatment begins, you will be given a topical numbing agent to help diminish any discomfort from the injections. Once you’re numbed, the injections will be administered directly under the skin in targeted areas. The exact number of injections per treatment will depend on how much correction is needed for your specific case. Treatment time is usually approximately 30 minutes. We typically recommend 3 to 4 treatments over a period of six months, scheduled six weeks apart.

Recovery and results

Some patients experience swelling immediately after a Sculptra treatment, but this subsides within 1 to 3 days. As with any injectable treatment, you may have some redness, swelling, pain, and/or bruising at the injection sites for a day or so.

Sculptra is different than other dermal fillers, as its results are not immediate. In fact, results from Sculptra build over a series of three injectable treatments that are scheduled over a few months.

Final results typically become visible at 4 to 6 months after the very first treatment, and we recommend a yearly or semi-yearly touch-up.

Candidates for Sculptra

If you’re in the Houston area and you’re considering Sculptra treatments to build collagen and volume, it may be the perfect option for your needs. Those who are interested in stimulating their own collagen to provide a healthy, youthful volume to the skin make excellent candidates. Those who should not undergo Sculptra treatments are those who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are immunocompromised or who have autoimmune issues
  • Are under the age of 18
  • Have any skin outbreaks, redness, or rashes
  • Are prone to keloid formation
  • Are taking blood thinners, aspirin, other anti-inflammatories

Sculptra results appear at around 4 to 6 weeks, but it may take months for the final results to be visible, as they progress gradually over time. Results may last for up to two years, but they are not permanent.
