The science behind the Contour TRL laser

The Contour TRL laser offers highly customizable treatments, as well as precision and control. Resurfacing depth and strength will be adjusted to your specific needs, and will be based on the condition of your skin, your personal aesthetic goals, and how much recovery time you can take. The Contour TRL laser safely removes the outermost layer of skin, triggering the production of brand-new collagen. This greatly improves the quality, texture, clarity, and tightness of the skin.

Treatment details

The details of your treatment will depend on the resurfacing depth you require. For treatments that are shallow, typically only a topical numbing agent is used. For deeper treatments, both a topical numbing agent and local anesthetic are used, and sometimes also sedation anesthesia.

Before treatment, your skin will be cleansed, and you will be given protective eyewear. A handheld laser device will then be placed over your skin and held still while a computer-guided scanner moves the laser beam. The length of treatment time will vary from patient to patient depending on their specific case. During your consultation, we can give you an estimate of how long your treatment will take.

Recovery and results

Every patient is different, and recovery times will vary. However, in general shallow treatments require 3 to 4 days, and deeper treatments require 5 to 7 days (or longer). Some patients have redness, swelling, and/or a sunburn sensation following treatment. We can prescribe a topical medication to help manage any discomfort. It’s very important during recovery to avoid direct sun exposure. It takes approximately one week for the outer skin layers to heal. At this point, you will see improvements in the texture and tone of your skin. If you had a deeper resurfacing treatment, you will see gradual improvements in the tightness of your skin over the next 4 to 6 months.
