About Ultherapy

Ultherapy is the only energy-based cosmetic treatment that is FDA-approved for non-invasive lifting. By using gentle, focused ultrasound energy, Ultherapy effectively regenerates collagen, tones the skin, and slows down effects of the aging process. The ultrasound waves penetrate the skin (even more deeply than a laser) and work below the surface, where they reach the collagen that is nestled within the connective tissue.

Tiny channels of thermal energy then heat up the tissue, causing it to contract, which restores and strengthens the existing collagen. This visibly lifts and firms the skin. Ultherapy offers excellent results that target the same areas as a traditional facelift, only without the recovery time involved. This provides an option for a safe, effective alternative for individuals who may not feel ready for surgery.

Ultherapy treatment details

Some patients require a numbing agent, but others don’t. Everyone has a different tolerance to discomfort, and whether or not you need an anesthetic can be discussed during your consultation. Your skin will be cleansed and marked to help guide your specialist, and the machine will start.

The handheld Ultherapy device will be applied directly to your skin, where it will pass over the treatment area. Some patients report feeling only a mild tingling sensation, while others note more significant discomfort or an “electric buzz” type feeling.

This sensation is a sign that the collagen-building process has started. Treatments take approximately 30 minutes to one hour.

Recovery

You will be able to return to your regular activities immediately after your Ultherapy treatment. There may be mild redness in the treated areas for about an hour, and there may also be slight swelling, tingling, or tenderness. These are common and temporary. Some patients experience numbness in the treated areas anywhere from two days to two weeks. If you’re concerned about any of these side effects, please let us know and we will be happy to discuss them with you.

Results

While the majority of patients feel and see an immediate tightening of the skin, it’s important to be aware that some results from Ultherapy will be gradual. Part of Ultherapy’s results come from the new collagen, which can take 3 to 6 months to become noticeable.

However, once the collagen process is in motion, final results will last up to two years. In order to maintain your outcome, maintenance treatments may be needed.

Good candidates for Ultherapy

The best Ultherapy candidates are individuals who:

  • Have mild to moderate laxity of the face, neck, and jowls
  • Are younger (late 20s) and want to prevent future signs of aging by building their collagen
  • Have skin that no longer feels as firm as it once did
  • Do not want to undergo surgery
  • Have realistic expectations for Ultherapy
