At triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry’s Mentz’s Houston office, trained technicians perform the CoolSculpting procedure on patients who want small amounts of stubborn fat removed without the time and risks of surgical liposuction. CoolSculpting can be used on most areas of the body, but it is most commonly used on the stomach, butt, back, and thighs.

Procedure Technique

Nonsurgical fat reduction with cold energy, like the CoolSculpting system, targets the fat cells in the treated area without affecting the surrounding cells. This freezes and kills the fat cells, which will be naturally processed out of the body over the next several months. Patients may see some visible results immediately after their treatment, but most will see their best results after 2-3 months.

Recovery

Since nonsurgical fat reduction does not require anesthesia or incisions, patients will be able to resume their normal activities immediately after their treatment. You may have some redness, swelling, or numbness in the treated areas, but this should be gone 1-2 days after the procedure.

CoolSculpting FAQs

Best Candidates?

The best candidates for nonsurgical fat reduction will have be in good health and shape overall, but need help removing small pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Patients who get nonsurgical fat reduction should also have good skin laxity to avoid loose skin after their treatment. You may consider including a nonsurgical skin tightening treatment to improve the strength and elasticity of your skin.

Weight Loss?

While some patients may lose small amounts of weight after nonsurgical fat reduction, this procedure is not meant to be a weight loss program. CoolSculpting works best on patients with small amounts of stubborn fat. Larger amounts of fat will require a weight loss program or surgical liposuction.

Persistent Results?

While the treated fat cells are persistently destroyed, you can gain weight if you do not follow a healthy lifestyle after your CoolSculpting procedure. The fat cells that remain can expand to create weight gain, so patients should maintain their healthy, stable weight with a nutritious diet and regular exercise to ensure their results remain.
