Discoloration on the face such as brown spot, rosacea, and vascular and benign discolorations such as facial spider veins and port wine stains can all be diminished to give the face a more evenly toned appearance. At his Houston MedSpa, triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz offers IPL photofacial treatments for patients looking to improve the health and beauty of their skin.

Procedure Technique

Before an IPL treatment, the technician will cleanse the areas to be treated of any makeup, dirt, and oil to prepare the skin. You will be given an eye mask to protect your eyes from the pulsing light. The technician will press the IPL hand piece to the treated area where it will heat the collagen below the skin’s surface. By stimulating the skin’s collagen production in the treated areas, blemishes begin to disappear and lines and wrinkles are filled in. Most patients feel mild to no discomfort during their treatment and will need no recovery time.

Easy to schedule. Everyone that works in the office is a delight, very caring. They are quick to answer questions and concerns. They make the process, as easy as it can be.

FAQ

Acne Treatment?

When sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria build up in hair follicles, acne and other blemishes are often the result. IPL’s heat and light energy help to clear and balance blemished skin by destroying the bacteria that collects in the follicles. In addition, it is thought that IPL therapy helps to lessen the production of oil by the sebaceous glands, which can further help to diminish the excessive buildup of debris in the follicles.

Aftercare Tips?

After your IPL treatment, your skin may feel sunburned for about 1 day. After a photofacial, you should avoid hot water and sun exposure for at least 2 days. In some cases, scabs or blisters may form in the treated area and it is important you not pick at these and let them heal on their on.

Gradual Improvements?

For up to 2 weeks after their photofacial, patients may notice that the blemishes on their skin become darker. This is normal as the skin prepares to shed to damaged layers. To get their best results, most patients will need 2-6 treatments with each treatment spaced 4 weeks from the last. It may also be helpful to return for periodic touch up treatments to maintain your results.
